Level 2 and Level 3 Part 1. Online, at your own pace, in one purchase.
Both classes are offered 100% online, so you can complete them on your own schedule from a computer, tablet, or phone.
The Security Career Gateway puts the first two online courses on the Texas path to an armed security license into one checkout. Level 2 is the required starting point for a Non-Commissioned Security Officer license and the mandatory first step before Level 3. Level 3 Part 1 is the classroom half of the course that leads to a Security Officer Commission (armed). Per 37 Texas Administrative Code §35.141, Level 2 and Level 3 are the training steps for those licenses. Buy them together and both courses open in your account at once.
What is included in the Security Career Gateway?
- Texas Online Level 2 Security Class, online, $29.99
- Texas Level 3 Security Class Part 1, online, $99.99
The two classes come to $129.98 bought one at a time. The Gateway is $124.98, so you save $5.00, and you get one checkout, one receipt, and both courses waiting for you.
What order do the Gateway courses go in?
- Level 2: the entry point for working as a security officer in Texas. Unarmed, self-paced online. You receive your PSP 36 certificate of completion to submit with your Level 2 license application to the Texas DPS Regulatory Services Division.
- Level 3 Part 1: the classroom half of the commissioned officer course, self-paced online. Level 3 builds on Level 2 rather than replacing it, and the written exam requires a minimum passing grade of 75% under 37 TAC §35.144(c).
What is not included?
The hands-on training is sold separately. Part 1 does not finish your Level 3. Level 3 Part 2 is the in-person day with defensive tactics, handcuffing, baton, firearms handling and the firearms proficiency exam on the range. It is $149.99, booked on our calendar once you have finished Part 1. See the Level 3 Part 2 dates.
Finishing Level 3 does not by itself let you work armed. You still have to be commissioned through the Texas DPS Regulatory Services Division and employed by a licensed company. If you also want pepper spray certification, the Security Career LaunchPad adds the online OC (Pepper Spray) class, and the Security Career Fastrack covers every online and in-person class through Level 4 Personal Protection Officer.

Common questions about the Security Career Gateway
How much does the Security Career Gateway cost?
The Gateway is $124.98, paid once. Bought separately, Level 2 at $29.99 and Level 3 Part 1 at $99.99 come to $129.98, so the Gateway saves you $5.00. The Level 3 Part 2 range day ($149.99) is booked separately.
Do I have to take Level 2 before Level 3?
Yes. A commission application requires copies of both your Level 2 and Level 3 certificates under 37 TAC §35.81(a), and Level 3 builds on Level 2. The Gateway gives you both, in that order.
How long do I have to finish?
Both courses are self-paced and your progress is saved between sessions. Your online course access runs for six months from purchase.
Does this package let me carry a firearm on duty?
Not on its own. You also need Level 3 Part 2 including the firearms proficiency exam, a Security Officer Commission from the Texas DPS Regulatory Services Division, and employment with a licensed company.
What if I already have my Level 2?
Then you do not need the Gateway. Buy Level 3 Part 1 on its own, and talk to us if you are not sure which classes you still need.
Can my employer buy this for a group of officers?
This package is sold one person at a time, so it is not part of our group training program. Each officer can buy it on this page with their own checkout. For several officers, group training covers the full classes (Level 2, Level 3 with the range session, Level 4 Personal Protection Officer, OC and Armed Security Recertification) on one invoice, and we can help you plan the mix: email info@etxsta.com.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
No. You get instant access to the paid online material on purchase, so the courses are non-refundable.
