Security Career LaunchPad. Level 2, Level 3 and OC Online

Level 2, Level 3 Part 1 and OC Part 1. Online, at your own pace, in one purchase.

Security Career LaunchPad: Level 2 online plus Level 3 online plus OC online

All three classes are offered 100% online, so you can complete them on your own schedule from a computer, tablet, or phone.

The Security Career LaunchPad puts the three online courses at the start of the Texas armed security path into one checkout. Level 2 is the required starting point for a Non-Commissioned Security Officer license and the mandatory first step before Level 3. Level 3 Part 1 is the classroom half of the course that leads to a Security Officer Commission (armed). OC (Pepper Spray) Part 1 is the classroom half of the pepper spray certification. Per 37 Texas Administrative Code §35.141, Level 2 and Level 3 are the training steps for those licenses. Buy them together and all three courses open in your account at once.

What is included in the Security Career LaunchPad?

  • Texas Online Level 2 Security Class, online, $29.99
  • Texas Level 3 Security Class Part 1, online, $99.99
  • Texas OC (Pepper Spray) Class Part 1, online, $29.99

The three classes come to $159.97 bought one at a time. The LaunchPad is $149.97, so you save $10.00, and you get one checkout, one receipt, and all three courses waiting for you.

What order do the LaunchPad courses go in?

  1. Level 2: the entry point for working as a security officer in Texas. Unarmed, self-paced online. You receive your PSP 36 certificate of completion to submit with your Level 2 license application to the Texas DPS Regulatory Services Division.
  2. Level 3 Part 1: the classroom half of the commissioned officer course, self-paced online. Level 3 builds on Level 2 rather than replacing it, and the written exam requires a minimum passing grade of 75% under 37 TAC §35.144(c).
  3. OC Part 1: the pepper spray classroom portion, self-paced online.

What about pepper spray and Level 3?

The Texas Private Security Board approves pepper spray training only as a supplement to Level 3, and only for officers who have completed it. That is why the LaunchPad includes both. Plan to finish Level 3, including the in-person Part 2, before you count on your OC certificate. If you hold a Level 2 license only, the OC course is not yet approved for you, so work through Level 3 first.

What is not included?

The hands-on training is sold separately:

  • Level 3 Part 2, in person: defensive tactics, handcuffing, baton, firearms handling and the firearms proficiency exam on the range. $149.99. See the Level 3 Part 2 dates.
  • OC (Pepper Spray) Part 2, in person: the short practical session, about 30 minutes. $9.99. See the OC Part 2 dates.

Finishing Level 3 does not by itself let you work armed. You still have to be commissioned through the Texas DPS Regulatory Services Division and employed by a licensed company. If you want every online and in-person class through Level 4 Personal Protection Officer in one purchase, see the Security Career Fastrack.

Common questions about the Security Career LaunchPad

How much does the Security Career LaunchPad cost?

The LaunchPad is $149.97, paid once. Bought separately, Level 2 at $29.99, Level 3 Part 1 at $99.99 and OC Part 1 at $29.99 come to $159.97, so the LaunchPad saves you $10.00. The two in-person sessions, Level 3 Part 2 ($149.99) and OC Part 2 ($9.99), are booked separately.

Do I have to take Level 2 before Level 3?

Yes. A commission application requires copies of both your Level 2 and Level 3 certificates under 37 TAC §35.81(a), and Level 3 builds on Level 2. The LaunchPad gives you both, in that order.

Why is pepper spray included with Level 3?

In Texas a chemical dispensing device is a prohibited weapon, and security officers have a legal defense only if they have completed training approved by the Texas Private Security Board. That approval covers pepper spray training as a supplement to Level 3, so the two go together.

How long do I have to finish?

All three courses are self-paced and your progress is saved between sessions. Your online course access runs for six months from purchase.

Does this package let me carry a firearm or pepper spray on duty?

Not on its own. For a firearm you also need Level 3 Part 2 including the firearms proficiency exam, a Security Officer Commission from the Texas DPS Regulatory Services Division, and employment with a licensed company. For pepper spray you also need to complete Level 3 and the OC Part 2 in-person session.

What if I already have my Level 2?

Then you do not need the LaunchPad. Buy Level 3 Part 1 and the OC (Pepper Spray) course on their own, and talk to us if you are not sure which classes you still need.

Can my employer buy this for a group of officers?

This package is sold one person at a time, so it is not part of our group training program. Each officer can buy it on this page with their own checkout. For several officers, group training covers the full classes (Level 2, Level 3 with the range session, Level 4 Personal Protection Officer, OC and Armed Security Recertification) on one invoice, and we can help you plan the mix: email info@etxsta.com.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

No. You get instant access to the paid online material on purchase, so the courses are non-refundable.
