Part 1 is the online classroom portion of the Texas OC (Pepper Spray) Certification course, required for security officers authorized to carry and deploy OC spray on duty. Complete this portion online before attending the required in-person Part 2 practical deployment session.

What this portion covers

• History and background of chemical weapons/irritant agents
• What OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) spray is, how it works, and its physical/psychological effects
• Safety, stability, and effectiveness of modern OC devices
• Medical risk awareness — pre-existing conditions, excited delirium, and when to seek immediate medical attention
• Liability considerations for improper, excessive, or unnecessary use

After completing Part 1, you’ll register for the in-person Part 2 session (practical draw, targeting, deployment, and decontamination training) — listed separately as an in-person class.
