Plenty of Texans have the classroom half of their License to Carry finished and the shooting half still hanging over them. It is the step that people put off, and the reason is almost always scheduling.
So we put it on a calendar you can book from.
Dates, not appointments to be negotiated
Our LTC shooting qualification is held at the East Texas Rifle and Pistol Club, 1045 Farm to Market Road 2011, Longview. Open dates and start times are listed on the booking calendar, so check there for what is open right now.
$50. Published on the site. Pick your date and it is booked.
How the booking works now
Pick a date on the calendar, pay the $50, and your slot is reserved. You will know the date, the start time and the address before you leave the page. That is the whole process: no phone tag, no waiting to hear whether a date can be arranged.
Each qualification session is scheduled as a defined block rather than an open range day, so arrive on time; the session runs to the published finish.
Why you want the license at all
A Texas License to Carry is not just permission to carry. It changes what the law lets you do and where:
- Fewer restrictions on where you can lawfully carry
- Legal protection in situations an unlicensed carrier does not have
- Recognition in a long list of other states, which matters the moment you drive out of Texas
- A smoother process at the gun counter
- Clear knowledge of the actual carry laws, which is worth more than most people expect
For the specifics of reciprocity and the current rules, the Texas Department of Public Safety publishes the authoritative lists, and we would rather point you to the source than quote a number at you that changes.
If you have not done the classroom part yet
Our online LTC classroom course is 100% video-based, self-paced and works on any device. The two halves are independent (you can shoot first and do the classroom afterwards if an open date suits you), but most people find it easier to do the video course first so the material is fresh.
Bring the right attitude, not the right gear
You do not need a competition pistol or a thousand rounds of practice. The qualification is a demonstration of safe, competent handling at modest distances. If you are a nervous first-time shooter, say so when you arrive. That is a normal thing to be, and handling it well is part of the job.
Why people put this off, and why not to
The shooting qualification is the step that feels like it requires preparation, so it gets deferred, and a half-finished license application sits for months. It does not require preparation. It requires a date.
Open dates are listed on the booking calendar, and the ones people want most go first. Take one.
